Biography

Timeline
I was born (1960) and raised in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Both my mother, a public administrator, and my father, a firefighter, were highly active in our community. I played all sports growing up, and especially loved hockey. I received my high school diploma and undergraduate degree from local Nova Scotian educational institutions.
In 1989, my wife (Cindy, a nurse practitioner) and I moved to Boston. After living in the "big city" for four years we moved south to Sarasota, FL. We basked in the Florida sun until 2005 when we made one of the best decisions of our lives. We moved to Alaska. It was in Anchorage just this past summer when I received my American citizenship.

Interests I have many interests. My favorite things to do are to play hockey and travel. I also enjoy most other sports, camping/hiking, computers/technology, reading and home remodeling projects.

Employment
I have been truly fortunate to have had a good, well-rounded education. I believe it is that solid educational foundation (along with a strong work ethic that my family and community instilled in me) that has allowed me to experience a wide variety of industries throughout my work history.
I have over 15 years of experience in the field of accounting/financial management in the seafood, travel, construction and educational industries. I also have 6+ years of experience in teaching middle school math (6 years of teaching fulltime and several more working as a substitute teacher) and am currently employed by the Anchorage School District as an accountant.
